Trust Your Plan and Stay Confident

🎯 Trust Your Plan and Stay Confident

The Power of Preparation

Having confidence in your well-prepared plan is essential for effective mentoring. When challenges arise, your preparation becomes your anchor.

Why Confidence Matters

It is completely normal if the mentees express unexcitedment about your activities. Think again, when you first started riding a bicyble, you also felt a bit hard, for some people it is even so hard, and when we need to do a difficult task, getting discouraged is inevitable. It is nice if you have a trainer to encourage you to be resilient to finally reach the set goal. Here, you are that trainer of the mentees.

As long as that you trust the objectives of the activity is rewarding, stick to your plan and encourage your mentees.

How to deal with distracted mentees?

There can be mentees who keep asking to change activity. Please continue with your plan!

1. Here comes our Mentee Coordinators

In order to help your Lead Mentor continue with his/her work, please spend your time finding out why the mentees are bored. Maybe the Lead Mentor's volume is too low.

But if it is because some mentees don't get enough attention, approach them and engage them to the activity.

Important

Do not ask discouraging, distracting questions such as Do you think this game is boring? or You want to change game?

Mentors should become a solid group with the same mission and vision in order to inspire mentees.

2. Keep an eye on short-attention-span mentees

You can notice whether most of the time there is one or two mentees show there non-cooperation then many other mentees follow them. If this happens, you can use the negotiation result to expect the responsibility from all the mentees.

The rewards can be the activity that the mentees wish to do.

Fast quiz

You got checked on by your GEN2050 course manager on that session. You are holding an arts activity when three mentees say they are bored and they want to play basketball. They keep complaining and refuse to complete the task which is annoying and it distracts other mentees. What would you do?
